Divine bronze
Pauline Lunsingh Scheurleer, Marijke J. Klokke

Ancient Indonesian bronzes from AD600 to 1600.

This book presents a selection of Indo-Japanese bronzes from the extremely rich public and private collections in The Netherlands. These bronzes are part of the Indo-Japanese culture. This culture flourished from about the 5th to the 16th centuries in the Indonesian archipelago, mainly on the islands of Java, Sumatra and Bali. Other remains are stone temple buildings and statues, terracotta objects and inscriptions on stone and copper plate.

This book describes and illustrates in black and white 114 objects. The introductions to these various descriptions provide information on all aspects of Indo-Japanese bronze art.

The importance of this study lays not only in the survey of figurines of deities and religious and domestic objects but also in the presentation of a method for the dating of undated bronzes and stylistic means.
