Mel Ramos (* 1935 in Sacramento, California) is one of the most important representatives of the Pop Art movement. Like his painter colleagues Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, he adopts motifs from the mass media and advertising for his works. He brings a wide variety of consumer goods to the screen together with flawless, self-confident, often naked women. He takes the models of these female nudes from the pin-up magazines of the 1950s and 1960s and immortalizes them in a lascivious manner intertwined with the products on display. In addition to these so-called “commercial pin-ups”, the publication also provides insights into the artist’s other diverse work.
