In the concrete, constructivist works of the Swiss artist and architect Beat Maeschi (b. 1941), the linear, the planar and the spatial – along with colour – are all of equal importance and are used on equal standing within the pictorial space. Maeschi’s works do not depict objects, but are themselves objects. The artist is continuously in search of a balanced harmony between surface, form and colour. With its authoritative texts by experts in the field and comments by the artist on his own works, the publication provides a remarkable overview of Maeschi’s oeuvre as a whole.
