In recent years there has been a considerable growth in interest in stock certificates. Those issued by the American railroad companies are amongst the most attractive, often depicting the company’s crest, locomotives or views of the terrain across which the railroad passed.

Since 1827 some 9000 different railroads have been incorporated in the U.S.A. In this book the certificates of about 150 companies are illustrated, to which Mrs Hendy has given descriptive notes and a brief history of the fortunes of the company concerned. Stanley Gibbons Currency Ltd. have supplied current market valuations for each certificate.
