Nearly 450 reproductions of sketches in England and on the continent of which 110 are in colour, show the greatest British painter in his early maturity. Turner was elected a Royal Academician in 1802, at the age of 27 the youngest Academician. He proceeded to shock the art work with the violence of this romantic genius, but went his own way to record mortally the mood and detail of his landscape vision.
