In comrade Baron, Jaap Scholten travels through large parts of Hungary and Romania, meeting the descendants of the once prominent Transylvanian aristocracy. With them, he visits the cellars and attics where they were forced to live under communism, and the forced labor camps where they crushed stones. With the youngest generation, he searches for truffles in the forests of Transylvania and discusses the future: how to rebuild something in a country that finds itself in a moral vacuum?
