Xianfeng! biedt een uitgebreid overzicht van de Chinese beeldhouwkunst van de jaren negentig tot heden. Dit boek richt zich op het werk van de zestien meest prominente kunstenaars die de avant-garde vormden: Ai Wei Wei, Liang Shuo, Lin Tianmiao, Liu Jianhua, Lu Hao, L Shenzhong, Ma Liuming, Sui Jiangua, Wang Guangyi, Wang Jin, Xu Yihui, Yang Shaobin, Yue Minjun, Zhang Dali en Zhan Wang. De combinatie van betrokkenheid, vakmanschap en traditie in een ogenschijnlijk toegankelijke vorm maakt deze jonge Chinese beeldhouwkunst zo fascinerend voor een westers publiek en opent hun ogen voor een geheel nieuwe wereld van artistieke creativiteit. Xianfeng! provides a comprehensive overview of Chinese sculpture from the 1990s until the present day. This book focuses on the work of the sixteen most prominent artists forming the avant-garde: Ai Wei Wei, Liang Shuo, Lin Tianmiao, Liu Jianhua, Lu Hao, L Shenzhong, Ma Liuming, Sui Jiangua, Wang Guangyi, Wang Jin, Xu Yihui, Yang Shaobin, Yue Minjun, Zhang Dali and Zhan Wang. It is the combination of engagement, craftsmanship and tradition in a seemingly accessible form that makes this young Chinese sculpture so fascinating to western audiences, opening their eyes to a whole new world of artistic creativity. Despite their growing fame in the West, all the artists selected for the exhibition in Scheveningen have chosen to continue their careers in China as a contribution to the development of their country. This book has been published in response to the first overview of contemporary Chinese sculpture in The Netherlands.
