This book is a tribute to the fun and creativity of the comic strip’s offshoot, the comic book. It presents outstanding features published in American comic books from near the beginnings (1938) to the advent of the comics code (1955). The editors have chosen the stories contained herein for there quality, and the books not so much a survey or sampler as a permanent statement about the uniqueness and the artistic merit of the comic book at its best. There are thirty-two complete stories almost 300 pages in color, among them the very first appearances of Superman, Batman and Pogo Possum. Captain Marvel etc.
