The Belles Heures of Jean, Duke of Berry

The Belles heures du duc de Berry is a book of hours from the early 15th century. It was illuminated by the Van Limburg brothers between 1405 and 1409. It is considered one of the most beautiful books of hours that have been preserved.

In addition to the sections that make up a normal book of hours, this book of hours contains a number of quite exceptional parts that only appear in few other books of hours, including the French prayers, the masses and the prayer for travelers, but especially a number of saints’ lives that are told as a cartoon. and are unique to the medieval Book of Hours.
